The Jury Members’ exhibition has been organised as part of the Biennale for years. Featuring the works selected by graphic designers judging the competition (and thus unable to participate), the show gives them an opportunity to present a part of their own artistic vision to the public. This year the honourable position of a judge was taken by Stephan Bundi (Switzerland), David Crowley (UK), Kenya Hara (Japan), Jerzy Porębski (Poland), Silvia Sfligiotti (Italy), and Jakub Stępień aka Hakobo (Poland).
The exhibition includes nearly 30 works with such highlights as Stephan Bundi’s designs for the Swiss opera theatre Theater Biel Solothurn. The result of this long-term cooperation are the posters elegant in their simplicity, perfectly proportioned, illustrating Miss Julie by August Strindberg and Molière’s Tartuffe, among others. We will also see the evocative and dramatic opera posters for Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto and Macbeth, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, and Othello by Gioacchino Rossini.
Other works not to be missed are the most recent designs by Kenya Hara, presenting his view on the philosophical concept of empty space, which is so deeply embedded in Japanese tradition and culture. The posters featured include one for this year’s edition of the Takeo Paper Show exhibition, as well as the beautiful, elusive series promoting the Setouchi Triennale, a fairly new international art festival held on the Japanese islands in the Seto Inland Sea region.
The last artist, Jakub Stępień Hakobo, will recall the best pre-war design traditions referring to the constructivist avant-garde of the 1920s and 1930s. One of the highlights is the tribute to the pioneer of the above theory, Władysław Strzemiński, celebrating the 120th anniversary of his birth, entitled Jaram się Strzemińskim [I dig Strzemiński]. The exhibition posters include ones designed for Polish museums – the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź, and the Galleries of Contemporary Art BWA in Wrocław.
This time, the exhibition will be held at Centrum Łowicka (which was already the host in 1998 and 2000).
The previous venues include the Kordegarda gallery at Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw, the Old Guardhouse at the Royal Łazienki, the ZPAP gallery (gallery of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers), the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture at the Królikarnia Palace, Artinfo gallery at Fabryka Trzciny, the Aula gallery run by the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, and the building occupied by Sinfonia Varsovia.
Today, however, we just hope you enjoy all of the events of the 24th edition of the IPB, Warsaw 2014.
The exhibition includes a presentation of the profiles of the laureates and jury members of all editions of the IPB, Warsaw 1966–2012.

Stephan Bundi

Stephan Bundi graduated from the Bern School of Design (University of the Arts). He later studied book design and illustration at the State Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart, before going into business for himself.
As a designer and art director for film producers, concert promoters, museums, theatres and publishers, he combines unconventional ideas with practical Swiss tradition. He also teaches and is a lecturer and expert in visual interpretation at art and design colleges in Switzerland and abroad. In 2008 he became an appointed Guest Professor at the Arts Institute Nanjing Design College, China. Member of Alliance Graphique Internationale and president of AGI-Switzerland.
He participated as poster artist and jury member in international poster biennales. Bundi won first prizes in Chicago, Mexico, Mons (Belgium), New York, Sofia, Vienna, the ICOGRADA Excellence Award in Warsaw and several times the Swiss Poster Award. His posters are part of public collections worldwide.
Kenya Hara

Designer, Kenya Hara (b.1958) emphasizes the design of both objects and experiences. In 2000, he produced the exhibition "RE-DESIGN--Daily Products of the 21st Century", which successfully presented the fact that the resources of astonishing design are found in the context of the very ordinary and casual. In 2002, Hara became a member of MUJI's advisory board and began acting as its art director. In 2004, he planned and directed the exhibition "HAPTIC - Awakening the Senses" revealing to the audience that great resources of design are dormant in the human senses. Much of his work, including the programs for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Nagano Winter Olympic Games and Expo 2005 is deeply rooted in Japanese culture. In 2007 and 2009, he produced two exhibitions titled "TOKYO FIBER -- SENSEWARE" in Paris, Milan and Tokyo, and from 2008 through 2009, the exhibition "JAPAN CAR" in Paris and at the Science Museum in London. Hara's focus in these kinds of exhibitions is on visualizing and widely disseminating the potentiality of industry. The radius of his activity has been expanding to the rest of Asia as well, including the traveling exhibition "DESIGNING DESIGN Kenya Hara 2011 China Exhibition" that starts in Beijing in 2011. Several books authored by Hara, including Designing Design and White, have been translated into a number of languages, including other Asian languages.

Jakub Stępień aka Hakobo (born 1976) is currently listed among the world’s top fifty most important poster artists (according to John Foster, author of New Masters of Poster Design: Poster Design for the Next Century). He feels at home in visual identity, activities bordering art and design and the generally understood utalitarian graphics. He collaborates with many cultural institutions, e.g. The Art Museum in Łódź, CSW Zamek Ujazdowski Warsaw, Design Gallery BWA Wrocław, Tate Britain in London. His clients include Pogo Skateboarding, The Łódź Design Festival, Wyborowa, TVP and others. He has a characteristic style, inspired by traditional graphic crafts as well as street culture. His collection of works consists of both disciplined, simple arrangements and those inspired by his fascination with camouflage, graphic noiz and the excessive.
